about

Hi, my name is Erik Wasser and I am passionate about all things related to design.  I have an imaginative curiosity that always leaves me questioning what, how and most importantly WHY when looking for inspiration in others' works.  I learn by doing and continuously throwing myself into the unknown.  I discovered my love for creating when I was younger by taking apart things and putting them back together with different parts.  I have been eager to share my passion with the world ever since.

Prompt:

The goal is to develop an unobtrusive wearable product that will change the future for survivors of domestic violence with simple data collecting sensors.

Description:

Lift is a baby bump supportive band for expecting mothers who are also survivors of domestic abuse.  Lift not only offers physical support, but also communal support to keep mothers and children safe.  Sensors on the band track and record important user data; such as: EKG, O2, motion (accelerometer).  Data is recorded to track and possibly prevent domestic violence.

My product was chosen to be taken further by the Biomedical Department of Virginia Tech

S.C.O. - Survivor Care Outfit

Prompt:

Inclusion By Design 2020

VT Industrial Design 2 Week Competition

Place: 1st Place

Description:

My team and I recognized the complete disregard, for the dignity of survivors of sexual assault, by hospitals.  Once at the hospital, survivors are forced to turn over their clothes for evidence and they are given a hospital gown or scrubs for their exam and then to wear home.  These garbs are stigmatizing and effortless.  We developed the Survivor Care Outfit to include undergarments, sweatpants and a sweatshirt that is intended to help the survivor feel more comfortable and respected while they endure their treatment.

Prompt:

Energy misuse is rising exponentially around the world with no end in sight.  Future generations will be affected if change is not implemented.  How can we redesign the way our younger generation views energy?  How can we make it more enticing to save energy?

Description:

The traditional light switch doesn't entice the user to interact with it. Chop Out was designed to get children to interact with the light switch resulting in energy conservation.  When leaving a room it would just take a simple chopping motion to turn the lights out.
